New Muppet Show
Feb. 6th, 2026 08:18 pmI'd been out of the loop I guess, I didn't even know/remember they were trying to resurrect the Muppet Show.
I think I first saw FBHJR post about it on FB or mentioned it, and since have seen a few more posts and clips appeared on YouTube.
So, I decided to give it a try, took out the iPad (as that has D+ on it) and gave a watch.
I....Uh....To be honest, I dunno.
I am fully aware of the rose-colored glasses and nostalgia phenom. as well as realizing that the show and humor will hit different as a middle aged man versus when I was under 10 when it was on originally.
Thankfully D+ has the old show available to and I know I've seen parts of older shows.
I happened to watch the episode featuring Mummenshanz and I vaguely remember seeing that episode originally. Partly chose that one because I remembered the troupe being really weird but fascinating as a kid and I'm pretty sure was found all over Ch. 2 (which is WGBH Boston for me, and had the Muppets as well as other shows like 3-2-1 contact where I'm pretty sure Mummenshanz appeared on once) in the time.
But, even trying to re-watch the older show....Stuff just didn't hit the same way it might had when I was a kid.
So....I dunno. I have some mixed feelings and such.
I tried giving the Muppets adult comedy-drama or whatever it was a chance but I disliked every minute of it.
Although that was also a few years ago and maybe I just was expecting too much based entirely on the nostalgia or something.
I've watched excerpts or most of some of the Muppet movies and specials somewhat recently too.
So now the Muppet Show theme song will be an ear worm for a few weeks. great.
If you've seen the New Muppet Show or whichever. what are your thoughts.

Date: 2026-02-07 11:09 pm (UTC)the new Kermit voice is driving me crazy. it's no where NEAR Henson's.

Date: 2026-02-07 11:18 pm (UTC)As for Sabrina, it seemed like her name appeared several times in the credits, with Rogan. So I dunno it might become a theme where if you put yourself down as a Producer and pay x amount, poof, you're on the muppets and you get as many 'acts' as you want. (shrug)
As for the voice. Meh. There was a similar adjustment period after Jim died and his son tried to take over voices. IIRC they went through at least 2 more voice actors trying to retain the Kermit voice (? too lazy to research atm)....I admit I had a little trouble adjusting to Piggy and all of Oz's characters voices not being him. But that's OK, because the poor guy (and his vocal cords) deserve a fricken break after 50 someodd years and 90% of the voices.
