this is a post about gas prices in the US

So....lemme get this straight.

Russia and the USA are both OPEC member countries.

The price of gasoline (in the US) is determined by gas speculators, state gas taxes, and OPEC.

gas companies are making historic & record breaking profits with the skyrocketing price of gas around the World, and there are claims that "nothing can be done about it" or that it's "how the market works"

Russia is going into the long-haul war against Ukraine. For what....Farming and Port resources?
And they must have spent and lost a ridiculous amount of money and continuing to spend ridiculous amounts of money to keep that war going....So where could Russia/Putin possibly try to draw financial resources, oh, by jacking up the price of their gas exports.

Just to remind myself and anyone following along
Russia and the US are both OPEC member countries.

So....the US would be able to set the price of gas in the US....right?

Remember when the US was engaged in a ridiculous war against Afghanistan and for a somewhat short time, against Iraq at the same time? Pepperidge Farms remembers.
Also remembers the financial collapse in 2008 and the sudden skyrocketing of gas prices in 2006 and 2007.
Although the US was not producing enough of its own oil nor exporting enough of it to be a member of OPEC at the time.

And one of those wars dragged on for almost 20 fucking years, and we barely scraped past the 2nd Great Depression in 2008 after 18 years. But gas prices kept up fairly high despite a massive drop in the price of barrels of gas for a few years.

So anyway. Here we are, 2022, the US and Russia are both members of OPEC. OPEC controls the price of Gas.

So, no, I guess it's all just coincidental.
