Is it the phone or am I just getting old

palusbuteoJust got off the phone with my folks out in PNW
Dad was having some trouble with his phone, or got a new one, i think, as I got a weird message on messenger saying my number removed from a group, it had a bunch of 401, 508 and 601 numbers that I didn't recognize so I assumed it was spam and that the cellular service caught it on my account. But apparently it was Dad fitzing with his phone. He called and left a message (never heard the phone ring)
it was "Hi it's Dad just checking in. Hi"
It made me laugh. I played it for Muses_realm on speaker phone and she said it didn't sound like him. Which I also found amusing since the three of us all sound very similar.
Anyway, I went to replay the message again for Muses but accidentally hit "call back" and welp, guess I'm calling Dad now. But he then had trouble with switching to speaker and said "Lemme call you right back" but the phone connection hadn't ended completely so now I had two calls from the same number and I found out you can "merge" numbers while I was trying to "switch to this number and end call with the other number / put the other call on hold". which has never worked well for me.
Also, I must be getting old with new tech as I find myself hollering into the phone like an idiot and sometimes can barely hear the person on the other end. Whenever I call my folks, Dad puts it on Speaker so both of them can talk, and the distortion on the speaker is annoying. I also seem to regularly get feedback on my end where it's my voice echoing in the background of the cellular void and causes more distortion and feedback. I thought merging the phone calls would stop the feedback but it didn't. Oh well. Silly technology.
(also why I don't like using mics. it's either screeching feedback or pops and fuzz sounds as I accidentally hit it or accidentally puff into it like an idiot.)
Also, side note: When the hospital, doctor, dentist asks if you want to be contacted by text or by call, choose call, because GD I'm getting like 40 messages from UMass every day about the appointments I already had, and upcoming ones. And asking me to check in with MyChart online, which I then do, and then get followup texts about that. Ugh. But I guess it's better to have too much contact with your doctor's office than no contact at all.
Anyway
Everyone's doing good. Brother has his cat scan for the cancer and everything's in the clear, still. He goes for bloodwork monitoring end of March and then another cat in 3-4 months.
Dad said he said he's feeling pretty good, and noted that he lost most of his hair during chemo (as to be expected) but that a lot of it has grown back and including the color. He's been wearing a goatee since college, and his facial hair has been a deep reddish brown. Apparently that's coming back in.
Honestly I'm a little jealous, I admit. As I'm getting gray streaks in my (Imperial/Van Dyke beard). Although I'm also having to shave it all off for every time I'm doing 18th century stuff but trying to grow it back in between.
Mom said she's good with physical therapy after her hip replacement.
